First Doctor's appointment

So had our first appointment with the doctors at the high risk maternity clinic yesterday. What a bloody kerfuffle! I got measured and weighed (all of 10 seconds) and then we waited for 1 hour before we finally got to see the OB (Kate), and she didn't even examine me (apart from checking my blood pressure). But she was very nice and explained that I'll have her on my team, a physician and a midwife. And they'll also put me in touch with the heart team.  Explained all the various risks and the next steps and then that was it.... And then I was supposed to meet with the physician but she wasn't even there! So yes, was a bit of a waste of the arvo and I ended up having to take 2 1/2 hours off work for a 10 min discussion with the OB. Try explaining that to your boss when everything is still top secret! Ha!

The most exciting thing is that I have now been booked in for my very first scan for Tuesday 14th June! We can't wait! I just have to try and figure out how to get more time off work eeeeeek...

9 WEEKS!

So not sure who reads this blog, but really hoping its just my sister, my husband and maybe a few randoms here and there as this is a BIG secret and we haven't told many people yet!

How far along? 9 weeks
Baby size: the size of a medium sized green olive
Total weight gain/loss:No idea, but I feel/look the same as always
Maternity clothes? Not yet, all my normal clothes still fit. My stretchy belt is too uncomfortable to wear for long, but that's about it
Stretch marks? Nothing yet.
Sleep: Not that uncommon for me to have to get up 1 or 2 times during the night to go toilet. Also used to have pretty bad insomnia but i've started using a hypnotherapy app and I've been sleeping much better (even slept right through two nights in a row!)
Best moment this week: Joshy serenading me and Mooch last night with silly made up songs about pregnancy and Moochi
Movement:Nothing yet
Food cravings: Nothing major, although I absolutely had to have a fruit salad the other day. And jalapenos with cheese. And anything with chilli. And water. Water is my new best friend.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Not much, although i couldn't eat the steamed brocoli last night, it just didn't smell right and made me feel a bit queasy. Oh and I had a lovely, yummy creamy cake (gateaux) yesterday thanks to work, but then felt a bit sick afterwards. Other than that, not really feeling sick at all, unless I don't eat for an hour or two. So I'm constantly munching these days.
Food aversions: Not really a food aversion, but I'm surprised by the fact that I'm just not interested in chocolate these days. Previously, once I started, I could easily devour at least half a block of cadbury chocolate. Now, I have a piece if it is offered and thats it. Just not interested.
Have you started to show yet: Nope. To the point that sometimes I wonder if I really am pregnant!
Gender:  It's going to be a surprise!
Symptoms: Other than needing to pee ALOT, moodiness, crying uncontrollably over silly things (like the ending of Bicentenial man - really didn't like that!), and feeling hungry alot, I haven't had too many problems this week.
Things I miss: sushi. feta. blue cheese. and alchohol. I thought pregnant women were supposed to develop an aversion to alchohol, but when the waiter put a glass of red wine in front of me on Saturday, I swear it smelt delicious.
Labor Signs: Nothing yet.
Belly Button in or out? Very much in
Wedding rings on or off? On
Looking forward to: Going for our dr's appointment on Thursday. Hasn't happened yet but I can't wait for a check up as this all feels surreal. Would be nice to get some reassurance that all is well with the little one.

More travel!

at the end of feb, josh headed over to london his first big overseas trip on his own.  my cousin timmy met him at the airport and took him back to his share house in wimbledon, fed him and made sure he had lots of beers to keep him going for a while. then for the next 2 or 3 days, they partied and explored london (mainly camden from what I have heard) until tim headed to USA for a 3 month road trip/work and josh headed off on his 12 day contiki tour.

josh absolutely loved his tour. made some great mates, had a trip of a lifetime and saw some amazing sights. and then headed back to london for another week after which time, i flew over and joined him.

we spent a couple of nights in wimbledon, in tim's bedroom, which he'd kindly and generously let us use for our entire time in london. got to catch up with revadhi and also bought an analogue 120 film camera at the camden markets.  and then we fly to new york for an amzing 5 days. i absolutely love new york and i can't even say why. it just captured my heart. it was the people (they were so nice and friendly and helpful!), the markets, the cheap and easy to use public transport, the sights, the lights, the amount of awesome and cheap things to buy, the cheap food stalls where we could get tea "to go" for a dollar. the buskers. the funky bars. the cheap vintage cameras. the pretty parks. just everything was amazing and better than what i thought it would be and i just loved it all.

we also flew to rochester for the night so i could see my grandfather again after 20+years. what a touching and special reunion. he is 89 and isn't in the best of health, but seemed pretty on to it and knew who i was. not sure if i'll get to see him again but who knows, we may be lucky enough to head back there in the next year or two.

it was hard to leave ny, felt like there was so much we still wanted to see and do. but next stop was paris woohooo!

Visitors!

So 2012 has been wonderful for overseas visitors.

at the beginning of the year, my gorgeous niece, Alysha came over to nz for the first time for a whirlwind 4 day visit.  i was so worried about her being bored that i organised nights out and came up with lists and lists of things to see and do.  i shouldn't have worried though, because it turns out she is such a nana haha. we went out for dinner on her first night and then, instead of heading into town for drinks, she told me it was her "dream" to go home, put her pj's on and watch tv.  so that's what we did and she seemed happy enough.

we had one beautiful, sunny day with lysh, but then it poured and poured after that. we still rushed her around and took her to the french markets in parnell, the art gallery, family dinner in clarence street, etc but i do wish she'd seen auckland in its finest. having said that, pretty much the whole of summer was a write off this year.

anyway, the 4 days flew by and i was very sad to drop her off at the airport. hopefully my little niece comes back again in the not too distant future.

the next overseas visitor was my mummmmmmy! she came over during easter for 2 weeks and it was FABULOUS having her here. she did rearrange pretty much everything, and she did constantly tell us that we needed to change up our lounge and that our tv and tv cabinet looked awful. but other than that, she was wonderful. she cooked, cleaned the windows, washed (ALOT), showed us how to cook meat in the slow cooker (so easy!) and she talked. non-stop sometimes haha.

we didn't do much sight seeing with her as she said she really just wanted to hang out with us. but she did come with me to two outdoor movies, which was a lot of fun. cold, but i made her rug up.  she absolutely loved josh's parents and grandparents and we all had dinner together.

it was so sad to see her go, but i think she is coming back in september yippeeeeeeee!

End of 2011

Wow, I have been slack! I didn't realise I haven't blogged since last year!

There's a lot to catch up on, so bullet points may have to do...

* Geoff and Lyndells wedding in Newy was lovely. and the trip to aus was great as usual. so thankful that it is so easy and cheap to fly over to see the fam/friends!  Michael picked us up and we ended up crashing at his new house which was AMAZING. 4 bedrooms AND a pool! lucky bugger!
* Xmas was relatively quiet. Josh and i had a bit of a grump about xmas day because everyone in the family said they had other family members to see/hang out with, whereas we had no where else to go as all my family are in another country. however, in the end, it was a nice day as we lazed around until the arvo, when we headed over to simon and glynny's new house in Mission Bay for a late lunch/dinner.  they had just started renovating the new house and it was looking fantastic. I love their style.
mum and dad leys were there, as was victor and barbara, who are always fun to hang out with.
we had great food, wine and then we had a fun $10 and under secret santa. lots of stealing of presents and hoohaaing.
* we had a bit of a scare late that night when we found out that victor had been feeling progressively worse as the night wore on, and had driven himself to the hospital in greenlane. mum and dad leys and josh and i rushed to the hospital to join him (some time around midnight) and they kept him in and did lots of tests to find out if he'd had a heart attack, etc.   not sure what it was in the end ( i suspect the food and drink and excitement of the day hadn't helped), but he was finally released the next day.  he has been doing gentle excersises and eating healthily and has weaned himself off alot of his medication and is looking fitter than he has in a long time.
* New Years eve was spent at a house party out west at T and Siza's sister's place. It was Grease themed and was a great night. Lots of "pink ladies" and a few john travolta wannabe's :)
